Tell Us Your Dreams

What is it that you dream of doing in and with your life?

We’re talking lifestyle here, not discreet goals.

What do you see yourself doing on your perfect day while living your life on your terms?

What core activities do you want to build your lifestyle around, doing them at least a good chunk of your time, day to day, week to week, month to month?

It occurred to me that there are probably only a handful of “dream” lifestyles that people wish they could have.

I did some Google searches and found out that the idea of a “dream lifestyle” is not often addressed or talked about in blog posts or Reddit threads.

Most search results pointed to how people want to achieve several kinds of outcomes, but not in a way that is integrated with how they want to live their lives day to day.

Most people point to discreet outcomes, reporting they want to have or achieve things like career success, good relationships, health and well-being, financial security, etc.

Sure, we all want good things to happen in our lives, and many people want to apply themselves TO ACHIEVING these outcomes, for themselves and others.

But I am talking about pursuing and creating a “dream lifestyle” in which you can possibly achieve several of these objectives at once.

And yes, these dream lifestyles are, in most cases, going to be based on your fantasy of such a lifestyle.

Categories of Dream Lifestyles

Based on initial research, many people are “called” to pursue these 10 types of dream lifestyles. Many people report they want to be:

1.     A Traveler

2.     A Financially Free and/or Wealthy Person

3.     A Person Living a Slow and Simple Life

4.     A Single, Married, and/or Popular Person

5.     A Writer

6.     An Artist or Performer

7.     An Athletic, Healthy, Sporting Person

8.     An Academic

9.     A Lifestyle Entrepreneur

10.  A Spiritual Seeker

Clearly, this is not an exhaustive list, nor was it arrived at scientifically. And, a couple of these Ten are perhaps less of a lifestyle (at least in the way I envision the meaning of the term) and are more of an outcome that Could facilitate several types of lifestyles.

However, it is a good enough start to a list that might be useful for categorizing a lot of people’s dream lifestyle ideas.

For example, the Number One dream lifestyle I came across was people reporting they want to be a traveler of some sort.

Some people just want to drift from place to place. Some want to live in an RV or a boat and travel the world. Some people want to have a job or a business that allows them to travel and pay their bills. Etc.

Often, these categories intersect and overlap to create a Person’s Dream Lifestyle. In one case, a person reported they want to be: a) single (because partner/spouse doesn’t support or want similar lifestyle objectives), b) financially free, c) live a simple life, so they can d) travel the world.

In future articles, we’ll explore these 10 categories more (and possibly others), looking at them from several angles – the pros and cons, the reality versus the fantasy, the various possibilities for making them come to life, etc.

So….

What do you dream of doing with your life? Why aren’t you now?
